I have graffiti embroidered onto Clare's Patch to commemorate Ada Lovelace, the first person to envisage what a computer might be, inspired by the Jaquard Loom and the Analytical Engine designed by Charles Babbage.
We will be screening a documentary film about her life and work in the Open Source Embroidery exhibition at the BildMuseet which opens on June 7th 2009. http://www.mith.umd.edu/flare/lovelace/index.html
This is one of the first patches I made for the HTML Patchwork. I bought 30 swatches of fabric to start things off. Ele and I split the fabrics and I took 12 to the DAAMN residency at Gallery Glue in Newcastle. I am an artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have been developing the HTML patchwork project collaboration between DAAMN (Digital Arts and Media Northeast) Newcastle and Sheffield Access Space with Ele. My patches were made at the beginning of the project to get the ball rolling so we had some examples to take to the workshops. I ran a HTML workshop in Newcastle at Gallery Glue from Sunday 22nd July - Thursday 26th July. Visit www.daamn.net for more info.
