Progress:

What stage are you at, cutting, sewing, posting?

Sewing I have completed over embroidering the original tacking to make it more chubby in DCM 25 no.948 embroidery thread… and the outside edging with DCM 25 no.956 a very close link to #ff3399.

When I have completed my next two patches I'll be posting it.

Photos:

Please upload your photos of you and your patch.

See the Open Source Embroidery facebook group- I tried and failed to upload my photomontage of the creation of #ff3399!

Notes:

Tell us something about yourself, what you do and how you made your patch.

Inspired by the comments on the colour purple, “Effete” or #660066 I have undertaken a little research into #FF3399. I would have been satisfied to call #FF3399 a tint lighter than magenta and will continue to do so in school contexts but could also rather authoritatively refer to it as 'Flexeril'.

The fascinating website www.colorlovers.com allows users to take the question “What's your favourite colour?” to a much more specific level. Just over 19,000 user rates #FF3399 as 1325 out of 309925 which I suggest makes it a fairly popular colour, I feel proud that I get the privilege of embroidering #FF3399. I also wish to express my own particular 'like' for this colour patch was once a boob tube.

Flexeril also happens to be the brand name for the generic drug Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride. The rather imaginatively named Flexeril is a muscle relaxant prescribed to relieve muscle spasms resulting from injuries. I don't know how or why #FF3399 got this name or which was named Flexeril first Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride or this particular hue? Common side effects of taking Flexeril include dizziness, drowsiness and a dry mouth. I can report that whilst completing the embroidery my mouth did in fact become dry either a psychosomatic side effect of staring at the colour #FF3399 or the double espresso I enjoyed whilst looking for plain cotton?

Finally the following rather dull image is tagged #FF3399 on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/geeksmakemehot/38428104/ however the creator does have a rather wonderful set called Mockups which includes draft website designs for the website “Geeks make me hot”… sentiments that are difficult to disagree with. The website “Geeks Make Me Hot” does not feature #FF3399 but is worth a short visit to see a the American feminist image of a woman afraid to open a door due to “Doubt, inhibitions and ignorance.”

This rather lateral journey (powered by google and my brain) ending with “Doubt, inhibitions and ignorance.” seems relevant to the whole contemporary craft new media project we are taking part in, the notion men do computers women do embroidery craft thing!

Hope someone somewhere found these musing of interest.
