Made by: Geneviève Godin

Geneviève Godin from Montréal, Québec, Canada. She did it while she worked at the Banff New Media Institute, Banff Centre, Alberta Canada. She will be then at the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto.

Progress:

I actually started my patch on Friday, August the 17th, the last day of the Interactive Screen residency at the BanFF Centre and finished it the same day. I gave it to Eley at the Props Pub at about 11 p.m.

Photos:

I don't have a picture of my patch but I would like it though!

Notes:

I consider myself as an artist at first because of the importance of art in my conception of life. About two years ago, I was using the hexagone a lot in my images, videos, sculptures and installations. I missed the panel about the Open Source Embroidery so when Ele gave me the piece of fabric, explaining me what to do. I was very inspired.

I actually did a design that is very “Geneviève style”. Since I am also a graphic designer, my embroidery is very graphic. In a video installation called “Ciel de neige” I did a few years ago, I used the the hexagones as stars in the sky. I actually sewed a few “stars” on the patch and I also added the Big Dipper as an element which is my favorite constellation.

Also, the number is located at the bottom of the patch. Instead of doing the # symbol, I wrote “numéro” since I am Québécoise and speak french. I am very proud of it ; I love my culture and province.

I should also say that I am a music lover and #Numéro is a band that plays a lot in Montréal with Omnikrom, Ghislain Poirier and TTC, some very good actual “underground” artists.
